Kenny yuko announces run
for State Rep. in District 7
RICHMOND HEIGHTS
- Kenny Yuko has recently announced his candidacy for
Ohio State Representative for District 7 in the 2004
election. Current State Representative Ed Jerse has
reached his term limit and cannot run again.
An active participant of Local
860 and the Democratic Party, Yuko is no stranger to
the political world. For over 20 years, he has gained
firsthand experience in the local political network
through coordinating and supporting numerous campaigns.
Starting with
the Laborer's International Union of North America in
1975, Yuko first worked with the various contractors
until his appointment as Organizer in 1980. Yuko also
serves on the Executive Board of Laborer's Local 860
as the recording secretary; the Laborers' Political
Action committee as the treasurer and recording secretary;
the Scholarship Fund as the co-chairman and recording
secretary; as a delegate to the Ohio Laborer's District
council; the Cleveland Building Trades; as well as the
Cleveland AFL-CIO. He has represented Local 860 as a
delegate to the Laborer's International Union of North
America's last several conventions. He also serves as
the chairman for Ohio's Public Employment Department
for his regional office.
Over his career,
Yuko has served in many capacities in numerous committees
for agencies such as United Way, the United Labor Agency
and Midtown Corridor - just to name a few. Additionally,
he serves on the board of Union Eye Care. Yuko has also
been recognized for his many commitments to organized
labor, including being awarded the District Eight Regional
Organizing Committee(DEROC) award in 2000.
Aside from his
career, Yuko has also found time to help the community.
After organizing the building of an access ramp in 2001
for Darren Lewis, a physically-challenged child, Yuko
has been the driving force behind several other local
projects. Working in conjunction with the Cuyahoga County
Children and Family Services, Yuko worked with the American
Van and Storage Company to provide new mattress sets
and bed frames for local foster families, among other
projects. The Cuyahoga County Commissioners acknowledged
his efforts with several proclamations and resolutions.
Sharing his
knowledge of politics and labor movements with local
students, Yuko has been a speaker at John Carrol University,
Ursuline College, Lakeland Community College, and other
colleges and universities throughout the state.
Yuko is married
to Pamela, and has two children, Angela and Rocky, and
currently resides in Richmond Heights.
The campaign
office is located at 25875 Chardon Road in Richmond
Heights. Call (216) 261-7979 or (440) 289-5242.
